Description: The title page of the Royal Charter given to Trinity House by James II on the recommendation of Samuel Pepys. This related to the examination of potential pilots and masters for the Royal Navy, and granted Trinity House the power to fix their own rates of pilotage. It reads 'The Royal Charter of confirmation, granted by His most Excellent Majesty King James II, to the Trinity-House of Deptford-Strond, for the government and encrease of the navigation of England'.
